I have a Mac and a PC. I see that Apple puts out Garage Band. And Sony puts out ACID. ACID is WAY more expensive. I just want to have fun...mix some samples with guitar and bass...that sort of thing. Something to create a good final product, but I'm not a sound engineer, and never will be. Will Garage Band do the trick?

I've never use either...

All you really need is a good recorder (I got a great one wen I bought my MP3, in that software).

From there, just use the sound controls already provided on the PC.
Because your instument will plug right into your sound card, just recorded directly.

Or at least that's whay I do. The product turns out great if the recoder has an adjustment on it. This way you can turn the quality up or down.
