Do you think they are being sent to keep innocent civilians from being killed or to assist Israel in killing more of them in a more timely fashion?

Ethan, I am a Semite, you moron. I am not anti-me. I am anti-murder of innocent people wherever they are in the world and whatever the reason for it.

Since when are 5000 US troops being sent to Lebanon??????

I think you'll find its the UN that are sending peacekeeping forces.. the US will probably bolster Israel's efforts as they are in deep support of their actions at the moment.

Stop listening to the sensored US media and try watching world news from the BBC or Sky for an unbiased and unsensored view of the news.
