i think it means that you dont let someone elses opinions or negative thoughts affect your way of thinking ???? otherwise i have no idea

Guessing,
I would not let some one you does not respect my thinking to use my thoughts as if they were his own.
You are supposed to wash your feet before entering a house to keep the dirt outside. It is a spiritual ritual for some and an act of respect for others.
Allowing some one to walk through your mind is like letting them know your inner most thoughts.
If their feet are dirty then your thought will become dirty by connection. In otherwords, they will use your words and thoughts falsely or out of context.
Another way of putting it is, one must be clean of mind body and soul..

It means you understand the cause and effect between thought and deed; the GIGO rule of garbage in equaling garbage out, and a resolve to keep negative influences introduced into one's mind to a minimum. Put another way: If one doesn't know what they stand for, they'll fall for anything. It is a principled stance requiring great discipline.
