Don't be so superstitious. The Tigers will win the division and be the 1 seed in the playoffs. They can't face the wild card winner (the Chicago White Sox) being how they are from the same division, so they would face the winners of the AL West (the Oakland A's). Now we have crossed another difference. There are 3 rounds in the playoffs, not 2. How about another difference? The '84 team had players with playoff experience. The only guy that is close to having playoff experience is Pudge Rodriguez. This team hasn't been in the playoffs for a decade. Oh and the A's also have better pitching than hitting, something that the Tigers' batters aren't fit to handle. Even if they can find a way to beat the A's, they will have to face the White Sox in the ALCS, which has 4 of the best clutch players in baseball (Joe Crede, Alex Cintron, Jim Thome, Paul Konerko). Then, if they somehow find a way to beat the Sox, they have to face the New York Mets in the World Series. Yep, that has to be the best fielding, running, hitting, pitching consistent team in the MLB. So don't get your hopes up.

The Tigers are for real, and they won't get the respect of the media just like the Pistons. They will go to the World Series this year. The media was saying they would fall apart after week 2. They have such a solid lineup with quality pitching. Leyland will be mamager of the year regardless of post season performance though.

This team is not even close to the 84 team. The AL now has three divisions, with the central having two of the weakest teams KC & Cle, and Minn played like crap for the first two months of the season. The schedule now is unbalanced, mean that this years team only plays team out of its division 6 or 9 tmes as opposed to the 12 games that the 84 team played everyone in the AL. 18 or 19 games against KC will inflate anyones record. If you discount all games played against KC this year, NY,BOS, CHI,and Det all have about the same record.

Regular season records (in all sports) go out the window once the playoffs start. Then it's a clean slate for all teams. Too many times I've seen great regular season teams get knocked out in the first round. It's only a good omen if you believe in such things, which obviously you do.

Its not a good omen unless you expect San Diego to win the National League and Kirk Gibson to come out of retirement and play for the Tigers.
PS - I applaud Detroit on a great season, but I don't think this is their year to win it all. Next year however is going to be a different story.

Yes, it is a good omen. I think they will win over 100 games, will win their division, and will, move on to the World Series.
Go Tigers!!

I don't expect the Tigers to win the World Series, but they are a good young team that is fun to watch.

Well, I for one certainly hope so!
As long as there are no major injuries and the pitching continues to be good, they have a good chance of going far in the playoffs.
I don't know if they have the experience to win it all, but I think they'll do pretty well!
Now if we can just get the Lions going!
