I served in the Middle East as a soldier and was befriended by several Iranian people. More recently I have made a new friend who is Irani and she is teaching me things about the culture and the history. The Persian people have a tremendous history and culture, but unfortunately because of the governmnents hatred of the west, it is difficult to travel there and to the the sights and historical things. I would like to learn more, but the division between east and west seems to be growing daily. Both sides have things to learn from each other, and as usual anytime you have religion running the government than sanity is never going to happen. Even the US is run now by the Christian right, and their hatred of Muslims is as established as the Muslim hatred of the Jews and Christians.

The Iranian people are being led down a suckers path of destruction by their leader. He is one of those people that is a know it all and knows nothing. He is persecuting people just because they say something when they do not agree with him. The justice system in that country had a little 16 year old girl hung for crimes against chastity. The president of Iran is toying with the peoples lives when refusing to talk to the UN. Who died and left him God. Iran's cities I am sure are beautiful at this point but no guarantees for the future.

I think that the majority of the Iranian people are fine. I only have a problem with it's government. At school, I was friends with mostly Persians (I was even a member of the Iranian American Student Association.)
Tehran is supposed to be incredible. I've also heard wonderful things about Isfahan and Shiraz. And of course, I know the jokes about Rashtis and Qazvinis.

I think they're nuts for following the religious nuts. They need to rise up and kick the Islamists out of their country.
