Not sure why it is ok for 21 year olds and not teens? I remember the reason behind raising the drinking age had to do with traffic accidents but as drinking and driving is already illegal not sure that is a reasonable law. since then we have heard different arguments none of which make sense to me perhaps instead of legislation we could teach responsibility to our youth

I don't think that will ever happen. It's not a cop out, just the way it is. There is something interesting I know for a fact though....I spent time in many foreign countries and found underage drinking not to be as big a deal as it is in the U.S. You can walk down the street in Japan and find vending machines that sell beer, liquor and wine to whoever has the money to pay for it. I ask several parents if those machines were abused by children and all replied, no. It's not that big a deal to them. In most European countries wine is served at the dinner table and it's not made a big deal about. I don't know if that approach would work here in America but it has elsewhere. Most teens drink because it's "forbidden" and against adult laws and rules.

1) Where are teens getting alcohol? Limit the resources and you limit the drinking.
2) Educate.
3) Set an adult example of life without being drunk.
The Mystic One was a bad drunk for many years, but decided to stop, and did. Those were bad years, and were preventable; had he not succumbed to peer pressure at an early teen age, those would not have been wasted years.
Teens, it's not worth wasting the best part of your lives on being drunk and stupid. Life a good life without booze.

I don't think you should.
I was raised in Holland where there is no legal age, and a lot less problems with teenage drinking. My son is 15 years old, and I have always allowed him to have a little wine or beer with dinner, the interesting thing is, he is completely not interested. We can educate our children on alcohol, drugs, and sex, and not make it such a forbidden fruit, and I will bet you the problem will become a lot less, maybe not initually but it will. Kids and even grown ups will always want what they can't have, so to be casual about it and teach by example is the best way. I have two children, boy and girl, and have no issues with any of these things, but am also always there to talk to and listen to my children.

actually one of the ways to have less teens drinking is to lower the age.
yes it may sound stupid to do so but if its at age 18 and many college students that arn't 21 yet will find it not as cool to drink cuz they arn't breaking any laws.
its 16 over in France and driving is 18.....i think its that way only because they can handle their alcohol better and so when they had a drink or two they can still drive.

There is a direct link with teen drinking and lack of after school activites that a student participates in.
Take piano lessons, play soccer, read, write stories, team sports, photography whatever... just keep busy. Kids who just hang out after school more easily succumb to peer pressure to smoke, drink, and do drugs.
Early drinkers, (under 21), have a higher chance of problem drinking later in life.

Legalize it. Alot of the reason that people binge drink and such is because it's illegal and your being bad.
We also need to teach responsible drinking habbits like not drinking until you can't remember, and never, ever, driving while drunk.
Remember, drinking isn't a problem, abusing alcohol is. The distinction gets blurred way to much.

You must be kidding! We could only stop it by stopping adult drinking. I don't think this will happen with either age group.

You can't. Kids have been drinking, smoking, doing drugs and having sex for generations. They think it's cool.
