While re-booting the system, press F8 and select the "Boot is safe mode" option.

In the safe mode the XP doesn't ask for a password

Once you login in to your OS as administrator, change the password.

Next time you boot in the Normal way.

If you have XP home edition or media edition, when you boot the computer press F8 when you see the windows logon and then select safe mode. Login to safe mode as administrator no password. Go in and change your ID's password.

log in like this
dont put in a password
that will get you in as the admin of the laptop
as long as no one set up a password on that account
which most people dont
once you are in you can go into control panel and change your password in user accounts

i forgot mine too. but if i skip the password and click ok it skips and goes to the opening page on it's own
