Wasp the biggest pain in the bum summer has to offer.
follow these instructions carefully.
You need...... one empty coke or water bottle(plastic)
cut the bottle in two pieces so that the top piece when turned upside down will fit snugly in the bottom piece.
cellotape both pieces together.
add apple juice 30% of the way up.
The wasps will enter but cannot escape.
believe me i live on a ranch in Poland and have caught at least 500 of the bast**ds this week.
Don't forget to remove the lid.
you could not buy a better trap
have fun

Wasps have many predators (especially if you include parasites).
Hornets hate wasps with a vengeance and are quite docile if you stay away from their nests and don't start swatting at them. I lived amongst them for 4 years, never felt threatened and never got stung.
Dragonflys also love a nice juicy wasp and some birds will go after them too.
None of this helps with the nest problem though, as none of the above are stupid enough to attack a wasp in the nest.
The most effective predator is a human being.
Before you call in the pest controllers, take a tip. If the nest is hanging off a stalk and there's cover handy, just knock it down.
The wasps will not return to it (they don't recognise it as their nest, even if it's just a couple of feet away) and won't normally rebuild in the original place, as the queen isn't there.
Cost me £40+ to have a pest man come round and all he did was knock the nest off the stalk. Now I get my own back!
Solitary wasps buzzing round windows can be immobilised immediately and killed very quickly by an oil spray. A quick squirt and their wings are gummed up and the holes they breath through get blocked by the oil and they suffocate in about a minute.

Don't call the fire brigade! It's not their responsibility, they've got better things to do. Call the local council, they'll come and remove it for free. Meanwhile use the wasp trap, if you can stand how creepy it is.
Another trap is an empty jam jar with a metal lid, punch holes in the lid with a 6" nail, banging the nail in from the top of the lid. When you turn it wrong way up you'll see little spikes, somehow these stop the wasps getting out after they crawl in. Put a couple of inches of water and a spoonful of fruit jam and sugar in the jar, and screw the lid on.

Ant killing powder....

when I moved to my new house there was a wasp nest by the french doors into the garden , then I realised their entrance was in the wall brick-work so I kept the ant powder around their nest entrance for a while and they all disappeared . ( if it rains you have to replace the powder)
Few years later still no wasps!

Call the council - they should sort the problem out - and I know bee hives are very valuable to bee-keepers - so it may be that wasps are valuable to somebody who deals in wasps - I'm barking up the wrong tree aren't I ? If you'll excuse the pun !

Have you heard of the old lady who swallowed a fly? You're asking for one major headache if you wanna go down that line my friend.

I'd suggest getting the pest controllers in. They're not extortionately expensive and I think you'd rather be a bit lighter in the pocket than a bit redder in the arm, leg, or wherever the little blighters sting you.

birds.

If you have a nest and are in the UK I believe some councils exterminate free. Our old one used to, this one charges about £40, or you can buy the stuff from them for £15 and do it yourself.

It's called a flamethrower, there are professional models but if you are on a budget a can of aerosol and a lighter will suffice.
