I have been making cotton string bags and cotton water bottle holders as presents-(summer birthdays). People seem to like them
The string bag pattern I found on the back of a label of a Lily sugar and cream ball and the water bottle holder, I sort of made up myself. but you can find patterns all over the web. They go fast.

I sell a lot of crocheted toys. Dragons, unicorns, faeries, etc. They do very well. I've also seen booths where crocheted scarves crocheted with fancy yarns seem to do well. Afghans take too long to crochet and even if you do sell them you will never get what your time is worth.

Just be sure to gear your items toward the crowd you are selling too. I do a lot of celtic faires so my toys do well. Christmas bazaars do well with ornaments, or stocking stuffers.

Unless you live in a different environment than I do, selling new goods at a Yard Sale is going to have people turning up their noses at any reasonable prices you ask - they want cheap at a yard sale. There should be an increasing number of craft shows going on as the year goes along, peaking in late October or November. I saw one today for an open sale this weekend at a High School in a Dallas suburb. There is usually a fee and you may have to have an adult actually sign up, but people coming to a crafts show expect to buy new crafts made by the people selling them.

I've always sold crocheted cat toys filled with catnip and they are very quick to make and sell well. Just a simple ball.

Young girls are wearing a lot of ponchos/shawls again. Check out the clothing store advertisements to see what colors and embellishments are "in." I think if you go with some of the fancy, soft yarns you can't go wrong! Most of all, have fun! Another suggestion would be to ask some girls what they think is fashionable. If they think their mother or grandmother might wear it, they probably won't!

Oversized afgans. My grandmother used to make these for the church auction and they went for big bucks. Make it big enough to cover at least a queen size bed. Most in stores or made by people bearly cover one person sitting in a chair. Make it big and charge accordingly. Feel free to take custom orders so people can pick patterns and colors...but make certain you get a deposit so they do not flake out on you!!!
