I meant kids on leashes

It's funny...my husband and I were just talking the other day about buying one for our older son (29 months).

And to all the people who say they're cruel/inhumane/unnecessary (if you "train" your child the right way)/etc....these people obviously have NO idea what it's like to have a two year old.

I'd rather have my son strapped to a leash by his wrist than lying in a hospital somewhere because he wriggled free of my grasp or his stroller or the shopping cart and darted into traffic.

When I shopped with an infant in a stroller it was much easier and safer for all of us if I had my toddler on a leash so that my hands were free for pushing the stroller and picking up and carrying things in the store. The leash was attached to a harness that went harmlessly around the toddler's chest - something like a life jacket without the padding. I don't think anyone "keeps" a kid on a leash - at least I hope not.

There is a certain kind of "leash" for kids, but it is more like a harness that fits like a vest with a leash for the parent to hang on to. I've used it for my son when he was two. He was very active and hard to keep in one place and I was scared to death he would get away from me in public places and get lost or worse.

i don't know if they use actual leashes, to keep them as dogs or other animals.......i used to have something for my kids called a "hand holder" which looked like a leash -- it was designed by a parent, for kids, so you didn't lose them in the store, but it allowed them a short bit of distance to remain safely connected. it was attached with velcro, and my kids always found a way to cut themselves loose.....so go figure! i did receive many comments calling it a leash though. lol.

Yes, some kids need to be on leashes. I wish more people would start doing this.

I have seen people use these with their very small children before. Usually at a crowded place like a fair or something. The one's that I have seen attach to the child's wrist and the parent holds the other end. It is a good way to make sure your child doesn't run off and get lost (or worse) when you are in a crowded place, especially if you have other children you are attending to as well.

not on leashes but in a harness with a tether I knew a old woman who kept an adult son that way. I have also seen mothers with children in harnesses in the supermarket.

Yes. It seems cruel til you have kids of your own. I agree with the man who thinks there ought to be more kids on leashes.

Sort of. I used a harness on my 1st son, after I had my second, because I had my boys 17mths apart. When I was pushing one in the stroller, I didn't want the older one to be able to run off into traffic. He was young so he had no fear. I used it for 6mths or so on outings, and he finally realized he had to stay near. I dont think every kid should be on one, but if they need it, at least its there just in case.

Yes, but the leashes connect to the child's wrist, not his neck! That would be messed up!!
