Absolutely. A delightful book. And movie.
Probably the most popular and engaging example of magical realism.
In this case, I saw the movie first and then read the novel, and I found them both excellent.

I haven't read the book, but I saw the movie, twice.
Upon the first time, I had a revelation: I'm the youngest daughter, and I was unable to make a clean break from my mother. She used to go to Mexico and visit a rather aristocratic family there. When watching the movie, I realized that, in a way, she was pretending to be a Mexican aristocrat, and I, as her youngest daughter, was being steered, even subconsciously, to serve her.
She recently died, and now I must learn to live on my own.

I love the book!, and the movie was very well done. I have seen it countless times and I have also cooked the recipes.
I remember that when the movie came out, President Clinton had a viewing of the movie and after that they had dinner featuring the recipes of the books.
