It is them getting pregnant, but is it THEIR parents who are really going to be "raising" the child? What positive maternal characteristics do you think a girl that young might have?

Anyone under the age of 18 should only be worried about getting a high school diploma, college degree and making something of themselves for their future.

Girls at that age have no mental/physical concept of what sex is all about and what having a baby is about. They are just babies themselves and most parents are raising their grandbabies.

These preteens and teens need to also be aware of STDs and AIDS as well as babies. This is not a fashion trend in which these preteens and teens think it is.

These children do not have any maternal characteristics. Yeah they may play with baby dolls but a real live baby requires much more than a baby doll does.

I think it is ridiculous when young girls get pregnant. At 13 or 14 years old the girl is in 7th or 8th grade only! They shouldn't even know about sex yet. None of them are ready to have a baby and alot of them go on welfare and that's where our tax dollars go! Of course the parents will raise the child because the young girl has no idea how to be a mother. It seems like more and more young girls are getting pregnant. Come on, have you seen some of the girls who ask on YahooAnswers "Am I pregnant" and they have bad grammar and can't even spell! They have negative maternal characteristics not positive.
IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO HAVE A CHILD THEN DON'T HAVE SEX!

You may not like this answer but it is right out there!

very young girls at this age just like the idea of being a mom.......baby sit regularly for a couple who need help for about 6 hours a day for two weeks and that feeling of wanting to be pregnant will go away....and ideas of school dances, dating, cheer leading, going to ball games and activities at school will take over.

Yes the parents or the System end up raising the 2 children - the preteen and the baby.....

I do not think a girl of 13 could possible have any maternal instincts......just the normal feelings young girls get of WANTING to be moms...they have absolutely no idea what so ever is involved.

Stay in school and enjoy being young.

What "positive maternal characteristics" could a 13-14 year old girl have????? (Notice the word here is GIRL and not WOMAN or MOTHER?)

13 & 14 year olds are just barely out of childhood. They are in no way prepared to be mothers. The most "positive maternal characteristic" I can think of for a girl that age is that she might enjoy being around babies and young children. Other than that, they are totally unprepared for such a responsibility.

I had my first child at the age of 16 and I have been there everyday for her. People say that children can not possibly be good parents but what do you think they did 100 years or so ago when the girls got married when they were 13 or 14 and started having families. It all depends on the situation you're in and your surrondings. I know 13 and 14 are very young but that's not to say that someone that young would not be able to take care of a baby if they had to.

I think they should have sex if they want, but their perverted and immature minds don't have the brains to go out and buy a condom, or even steal their parent's condoms. They see people do it and hear stories and their parents are totally ignorant and probably don't know what they've been doing in their house after they leave, so it's partially the parent's fault. Also, people are trying to act a couple years older, shopping at adult stores, copying their older brother/sister, and thinking their mature and responsible enough to do whatever they want. Or maybe their parents didn't let them take the sex ed. class in elementary/middle school, so it's not just the 13, 14 yr old's fault, it's the fault of the world around them.

Why would a child want to have a child...who is gonna buy clothes, food, formula, day care, medical bills. Who will keep the baby when you want to go party with your friends who don't have a baby. Children are a 24 hour job as babies or teens...so why in the helll would a teen want a baby...you are looking for love and in the wrong place. Don't do that to a baby, but most of all don't do that to yourself. You are better than that, not to mention the guy will be free as a bird and you the female will be the one that is always stuck with the child. ...please don't do that to yourself. I am a 43 year old with a teenager and my activites are limited because of my daughter and I can take care of myself...so why would a teenager want to do tthat....that's just not wise...

I don't really think they have any, other than playing dressup with a baby. I'm sure there's exceptions to that, but generally, they weren't ready to have sex (where were their parents then?!) and they aren't ready to have a baby.

It'd be great if these girls could choose adoption, which would usually be in the best interest of themselves and their child. Alas, most teenagers aren't mature enough ,responsible enough, or wise enough to make such a grownup decision.

I had my first at 18 and am now 22 with three boys, I didn't have a chance to grow up and live my life how I wanted to because I had to raise my children, if I could do it over, I would wait until I was at least 25 to have children.
