Flies lay eggs on the food.. The eggs hatch to larve. The larve become flies

You really need to do your dishes more often

Man, those be SOME dirty, dude! They'd have to have enough food residue left on 'em for the flies to lay their eggs in it, and they'd have to sit around long enough for those eggs to hatch, the maggots to feed heartily on that residue and reach maturity -at which point you could say the dirty dishes done growed flies. OTOH, flies will explore even the cleanest of dishes if they're left out where the blasted little bugs can easily get at 'em. YO! Wash 'em and put 'em in the cabinet, fer Pete's sake; s'matter wit' youse? An' the silverware too!
