I have an 8 year old rabbit (i've owned her since birth), and maybe its just because she's getting old, but she gets diarrhea now after she eats her vegetables. It never used to be this bad, and I've always fed her these vegetables. I give her parsley, cilantro, kale, spinach, and a peice of fruit usually. Is there anything wrong with that? Should I feed her less veggies, or different ones, or what?

She gets free choice timothy hay as well, and she also gets free choice rabbit pellet. And she eats those as well, she only gets diarrhea after eating veggies...but I don't want to stop feeding them because I know they're an essential part of a rabbits diet.

As rabbits (and people) get older, their digestive habits change. Speak with your vet about veggies that will be very easy on her stomache. I would try hearts of Romaine lettuce: very easy on the system and very good for small animals.

veggies are *not* an *essential* part of a rabbit's diet. If she's getting diarrhea it's a clear sign it's upsetting her system. Cut back to half...if that doesn't work cut back to a very small amount as a treat. Plenty of hay, a good quality pellet (1 oz feed per pound per day) is sufficient for a rabbit's health.

I believe I have read that herbs are not good for rabbits. Are u feeding anything other than veggies? Try some timothy hay to balance things out.

Cut down on your rabbits vegetable intake. Basic rule of thumb is 2 cups of fresh vegetable per 6-lbs of rabbit. Feed her only leafy green vegetables such as dark leaf lettuces, collard greens, turnip greens and carrot tops as well as her regular diet of pellets and hay.
