In our modern world, more and more people are getting branded with tatoos and covered in piercings. Personally, I find them quite attractive when not overdone, but some friends think they're "revolting". What are your thoughts?

I have my belly button and ears pierced. No one has ever made negative comments about simple things like those.

all the comments on tasteful use are very true, but the comments on how they are "dirty" need to be rethought. Depending on the person. I mean I clean my belly button ring three times a day with bactine. its not even close to dirty. Not everyone is unsanitary.

I think they can be great when done well. It's a form of self expression, which is something that tends to be lost in our world of fads and stereotypes. When people have tattoos that describe them, it's great. But generic stuff that they get just to be cool - like a playboy bunny or an 8-ball - that's just stupid. Piercings can be just as cool, but they have to be done right.

I find that I'm not nearly as attracted to a girl with multiple ear piercings or any body piercings. They suggest a kind of desperate conformity that really turns me off. I'd still be willing to get to know her, but it would take some convincing to make me believe she was a free thinker.
Tattoos, however, are a dealbreaker. They're never attractive on a woman, and most of the time make her look like she just crawled out from under her trailer. The worst are the cute little ones-- butterflies, hearts, whatever. You're inking your body permanently, branding yourself in an attempt to establish yourself as a unique and worthwhile person, and a pink unicorn with a rainbow coming out of its horn is the most profound thing you can come up with? Please.

Tattos can be a source of artistic expression. I have two (one on back of shoulder and one on lower back) that I designed myself. I love them and quite frankly I couldnt care less how someone else feels about them. I have seen some interesting tattos on very inetresting parts of the body and while I would never get those kinds of tats, I dont think they are "revolting" same goes with piercings. I love my belly button peircing!
To all the people asking what people with tats and piercings will look like whem they are old?? Just like every other old person. How many 60-70 year olds do you see walking around in belly bearing shirts??

One or two piercings are OK--it's when there's a line of them up the ear, a nose ring, a tongue piercing, and so on that I start getting grossed out. When I first got my ears, pierced, my father told me the last thing I needed was two more holes in my head.
The tattoos are OK if there are one or two small ones, but I'd never do it myself. Things are already starting to sag, and I don't want to know what the tattoo would look like when I'm 80.

1 hole in each ear is a normal thing, i think the belly button, eyebrow, nose piercings etc are disgusting...same with tatoos, I have NEVER seen one that I thought was attractive. Can you imagine what these people are going to look like in the nursing home 50 years from now?!??! Stand up fake boobs with metal in their wrinkled faces and flabby bellies and tatoos that you cant tell what they are because gravity has made them hang down. UGH!!

when done in moderation, yeah i think they are attractive. it also depends on which piercings/tattoos and where. for example, a septum piercing hardly ever looks good. and overdoing it just makes a person look rediculous, like they are trying way too hard, but different people have different definitions of "overdoing it." The key is to do it with taste and an artistic sensibility.
i have 5 earrings and an eyebrow ring, and i'm working on designing a tattoo for myself.

I am very much into tattoos and some piercings. I personally have my ears pierced 9 times and I have 2 tats. My husband on the other hand has a complete shirt and has his ears pierced once and his hhmm pierced twice. I find it extremley attractive and sexy.
I've never been one to accept the norm on anything. I like those that can express and think for themselves.

I have one
I think it depends of the tattoo, but if its one or two, nice ones, i love them specially on the back, as long as they're not about demons or "dark" things like that, and they actually mean something for the guy
Piercings, not really, at least not on the eyebrows, mouth, nose, and well, I only like 1 or 2 small ones on the ears, but it depends of the guy

What you have pierced is hott right now but think in about 30 years the belly button might sag a little. Same with tattoos they look cool for awhile then when you get old your skin wrinkles and its GROSS have you ever seen a old person with a tattoo

I prefer a potential date to partner to not be defaced with tattoos or piercings. I often wonder how many people would get some or all of their tattoos removed if they had the money and time.
To me, ever worse are those people who deliberately make bigger and bigger holes in their ears - I think it's called "gauging" or something similar. To me it should be called "gagging" since that's my response to it. They must have a hole in their head to do this! [Get it . . . hole in their head. . . yuk yuk]
I guess some people do thse things so that they will appear more emo or goth or cool or whatever. Good luck getting a professional job with all of that. Yes, yes, I know that may not be high on your agenda but admittedly it is high on mine.
To be fair, if I were interviewing someone for one of my direct reports and they came in with these things, it would not disqualify them at all. But I would certainly listen closely to see if they were serious about the job.

Piercings can be quickly overdone, but I love tatoos. Of course, bad tattoos look like sh*t. If you're thinking about spending money on getting a tattoo, DO NOT skimp. Find the very best artist you can get to. But yea... I find them sexy as hell.
