My sister's ex-boyfriend told me it could hurt my bunny to pick her up with one hand under her chest, is this true?

I just kinda cuddle her to my chest, when i pick her up, which I don't do often. I like to just let her hop around my room.

you want to make sure not to pick her up and let her back feet dangle that could hurt her.

but - the best way to pick up a bunny is to put on hand under the chest and use the other hand to scoop under neath.

picking up a bunny the ears or scruff is a big no-no.

Possibly. If you are only picking her up like that without supporting the heavier end of her body, it's very possible to crush her ribs. Also, despite common myth, do not pick her up by her ears. The best way to pick up a rabbit is under the chest while supporting the back end. You can keep them from kicking by putting your hand under the back end and keep each foot between fingers. Hold the rabbit close to your body so that it feels safe.

If the bunny does not show any signs of struggle when you pick her up then she is fine. It really does not hurt them, just as long as they know that they wont fall then she will be comfortable and you will have her trust. Just be careful when you do pick her up.

Yeah, you need to be careful when you pick up rabbits. The proper way to pick up a rabbit is to put one hand under its chest, and the other supporting its bottom, while holding the rabbit securely near your own chest. This is to make sure that the rabbit doesn't think that it will be dropped, thus causing it to freak out and thrash around. Such violent movement could very well cause you to accidentally drop the rabbit, or it could wrench its spinal cord (and that may paralyze it).

I RAISED BUNNIES AS A TEEN ON OUR FARM. I NEVER USED ONE HAND TO PICK THEM UP BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID OF HURTING THEM. USE 2 HANDS JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE.

You should have one hand under the chest and one under the rear end while gently pressed against you. http://www.rabbit.org
