There was alot of crime and chaos, but some how it wasn't really reported. I don't know. Go figure. Anyway, I really think that so called protection by police in such a situation is really over rated. People always think, the Mayor will handle it, the government will handle it, the police will handle it. Actually when a situation like that occurs, the security is spread very, very thin.
Of course there's the National Guard. This was the good news reported from Missouri. The bad news was left out.
Government response times are terribly, terribly slow. In New Orleans Im sure that everyone wholly expected the government to come help, but the wait was intensely long.
If you had a crisis in your town, how would you insure your safety???

If I had some vacation time, I would pack up and go visit family out of state, or go camping. The only way to stay safe is to move away where the danger is at.

In professional boxing, the last instruction the referee gives before they start the fight is: "protect yourself at all times."

One cannot ensure safety, but one can improve the likelihood of being safe with proper disaster preparedness. Be prepared to live for at least a week with what you have on hand and be prepared to defend yourself and family. Discuss what to do if someone doesn't make it home or if home is destroyed.

Government cannot and will not protect you. Government can and does make it more difficult for you to protect yourself. Work to change that.

keep plenty of canned food and water in a storage w/flash lights, batteries, candles or portable lamps and a radio. As far as safety, well keep a weapon handy (what ever you feel comfortable using in case you gotta defend yourself or your family) and say lots of prayers.
