I would really recommend going your local mall and hitting the Clinique counter. Their makeup styles tend to be extremely light and tasteful. Any good salesman will respect your guidelines.
My tips would be using a light shimmery powder in cream, or pale pink and just brushing it all over your eye lid. Then apply a light mascara dark brown if you're a blonde, soft black if you're brunette. Then perhaps a nice mauve lip gloss. As you become accustomed to that you can later add eye liner, powder, and blush as you feel necessary.

You will probably hate my answer, but I would say take advantage of the fact that Mary Kay consultants will teach you how and what to use for free. (And no, I'm not one, just know how it works!) There's lots of different foundations out there, and they have a few themselves. Let the consultant know what you want, and she'll show you how you can do it yourself. I think the website is www.marykay.com, and it can direct you to consultant near your area.

You could try using Bare Minerals. It's a powder-based make-up. It quickly brushes on, and is catered toward the natural look.
