I was wondering if there were any laws prohibiting minors from buying novels that are graphic. I don't mean pornography or anything; I'm merely talking about books that have mature topics and profanities in them. I’m 15, so it’s not like I’m a little kid or anything. Would the store sell to me?

The store generally will sell the graphic novel to you. I was buying 16+ graphic novels when I was thirteen, and my friend started buying them when she was twelve. It's up to your parents if you can read it, and my parents never cared because they trusted me to know if something wasn't worth buying. Some of my mangas they still might consider a bit questionable, but they never cared enough to look for a rating or to see what the mangas contain.

All the local comic book stores where I live pretty much sell graphic novels to anybody of any age, except for those graphic novels that do carry an age warning on them. As long as the book you pick up has no "warning: do not sell to persons under the age of 18" on it, or is kept in a covered wrapper behind the counter, I can't imagine any retailer would refuse to sell you a graphic novel. Capitalism... greed is good at work.

Doubtful. There aren't ratings on books like there are movies or games, so you probably could buy pretty much any book you wanted. This is assuming that by graphic novels you are talking about novels with presumably unsuitable content and not graphic novels as in comic books.

Do you mean like actually books and stories that are graphic? Since books don't have ratings on them I don't think the store clerks would know one way or another. I'm pretty sure they would not sell you playboy or anything though! You can always try, what's it gonna hurt to try? They'll say "no, I can't" and then you'll have a definate answer!

The only laws are that mangas with hentai can not be sold to those under 16, because of free speech you can buy any novels you want, so long as there are no mature pictures

Most comic book stores have the "mature" ones in the back where you have to be 18 to enter, so I guess all the rest are free for all.

If you have to wonder whether they will sell it to you or not based on the content of the book, you probably shouldn't be buying the book in the first place.

Get yourself a REAL novel.. let your mind make the pictures.

I believe that if the books you mention, store would block sales to Minors. But, what you read, plays out differently in each ones Mind. So enjoy your reading, I always have. When I was your age I loved to read Victorian , Lady Chatterley , juicy stuff that era.

It depends on where you are, down to the store. Some places will, some places won't; and all it comes down to is the cashier's discretion: the mantra of "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" covers the retailer 99% of the time.
