My dad just bought an 05 scion tc and he wants an aftermarket hood because they look cool and the hood we have now is ruined by dents and bird crap! He likes the look of the aftermarket hoods but he doesnt like the carbon fiber look. So does anyone know if carbon fiber hoods can be painted? If so what if they have clear coat on them from the manufacturer?

yes. people actually paint the sides sometimes, leaving a stripe of carbon fiber down the middle. yes you can paint carbon fiber, but make sure u sand it down good, but i would say its a waste cause i love carbon fiber and its pretty expensive. go to andysautosport.com or other sites and look for fiberglass hoods instead. fiberglass hoods actually weigh less than carbon fiber, you can paint them instead of cover up some nice cf, and they also sell them with some nice scoops or whatever your looking for.

My Honda accord's VIS carbon fiber was painted. It beats not having it painted because of the sun. You'll have to wax it all the time to protect the carbon fiber from fading. Anyhow, with the clear coat. This company put 3 times of clear coat and I had a lifetime warranty. It helps out with rock chips and the sun and other stuff. Anyhow, right now I don't have any carbon fiber hood because it is a big hassle.

Yes. Carbon fiber is not hard to paint and in fact tends to deteriorate if left in the sun for a few years unpainted. I'd just bring it to a body shop - they'll know what to do.

Yes, it can be painted. Most supercars are made of carbon fiber and they have paint on.

Yes it can but expect to repaint it sooner than a metal hood!!
the heat from the engine, will hurt the paint..
