I had the check engine light come on and fixed the problem but I was told the computer needed to be reset to clear the light. How do I do that?

Something is loose and making the light blink- or maybe not making the light blink. Those lights don't have any kind of voice. Get an OBD2 code check done to find out what caused the light to come on. "Check engine" means, check the engine, not the light, or the trunk or passengers' opinions. Car part stores sometimes will do free code checks, but they are forbidden from making diagnoses. They can give you the trouble codes and maybe tell you what each code means.

Some autozones don't have the scanners needed to reset and clear the code. If a code is stored and your state checks emissions, even if the light is off, you will still fail emissions. Any code stored is an automatic failure. Take it to the dealer and have them reset it or buy a scanner yourself, which costs a significant amount more than taking it to the dealer.

You have to take it to the dealer - OR your local Auto Zone. That light can mean so many different things. Auto Zone can hook up the code reader and tell you why it's on and then if you fix it, it should go off, if not, take it to the dealer. Or, unhook the bulb to it.

Drive the truck for about 1000 miles and the light should go off after a few drive cycles.

Take the NEGATIVE battery cable off. This wil turn the light off. If it comes back on, you have another problem. NEVER unhook the Positive battery cable first. The resulting spark can damage your computer.

Don't ;you have a guide book that came with your truck? I am pretty sure you have to press your reset button for 10 seconds or so for it to clear.

disconnect the battery and reconnect, but if your check engine light is on now itll probably come back pretty fast though. have it checked out somewhere like autozone, they may do it for free sometimes.
