For all those who insist on complimenting how stunning I look on my avatar - It's Shirley Manson from the band Garbage and not me. Sheesh.

Check the power supply (Hold you hand over the back of the computer and see if your fan is dead, you should feel air)
If its dead, usually a 30 dollar replacement and 4 screws.

Another way to test is take the cover off and blow air from a fan (Keep the fan far away so the motor doesnt mess anything up)

If you get an error message before it shuts down could be a virus, Download and install AVG Antivirus for free. Make sure to uninstall your old antivirus firrst!

Probably cos it's old, it needs a rest mid afternoon, ivest in a pair of cyber slippers for it and call round a couple of virtual retirement homes for the old boy, or you could take the countryside option and take it round the back of the shed and blow the old boy's brains out with a shotgun :o)
Your avatar is a dead ringer for Shirley Manson from Garbage btw!

Since you didnt mention when it turns itself off it is very difficult to say why.If it does the thing after coming to the desktop, in that case you have a virus, or there is a problem with one of the dirvers of a hardware (which you might have recently installed). If it turns itself off during boot up, then I guess your RAM is damaged.

Take a look at your power setting by doing the following. First right click in the middle of your screen, than go properties, you will have a window pup up (display settings), Than click on Screen Saver, on the bottom you will see Power click on it, you will have a screen pup up (Power Options), that’s were you set your computer to tune of or not.

could be the feed that's had it or the electric cable that's gone haywire. It could be about 1000 reasons. Best get it checked at a pc shop

99% of the time when a PC 'turns itself off' it is HEAT related.

Open it up with the power ON, check to see that the CPU fan is turning - old fans sometimes stick & get gunged up with fluff.

It is HIGHLY unlikely to be a virus.

Even if it is turning (the CPU fan), a good blow out - NOT a brush is a good maintenance tip....power OFF!!

could be overheating(check the fans are all working and not clogged with dust)
or a virus or could even be a loose power cable (turn on pc then wriggle the external power cables)

check if the pc is overheating.take one sidepanel off, and look if it is still doing the same thing.if it is, it has some fault in the powersupply.if it stops doing that thing, you will have to buy a new coolerfan for your pc.
