3M puts out a double sided heavy duty tape that that works and then it will pull off clean when you take the posters down. I've only been able to find this in Home Depot and Lowes though.

Push pins? The heads of those are large enough that you wouldn't have to poke a hole in the poster, just put the pin right up against the edge, and let one side of the pin head support it. It may take more than 4 for good support on the ceiling.

Along the lines of sticky stuff, have you tried that Earthquake adhesive?
It's like sticky poster stuff, but may work better.
You may also need to clear out a little spot on the ceiling so you adhere to ceiling and not texture.

Regular thumb tacks will fall out of the ceiling from the gravity.
The only thing that ever worked in my ceiling (I had the same problem) was staples from one of those high-powered staple guns. Your dad might have one.
Good luck!

there are all sorts of decorative push pins- you can even make cool ones by gluing things to the heads of thumb tacs- I would do that

i would try push pins, they should work, or clear a small area of the celing so that it's not textured
