Because music touches emotions that need to let loose. Sad songs let tears flow that might otherwise turn to anger if held back.

Because we will throw ourselves a pity party in a minute and those songs make us cry and feel that much worse. Sometimes, certain songs hold special meanings and we will reflect on our heartbreak while we listen to those songs. Sometimes we need a good cry. Sometimes we just need to know that someone else has been where we are now.

I think it helps to hear that someone else is having or has had the same problems. It helps me to know that I am not the only one experiencing something sad! It feels good to know that I am not alone.

i listen to sad songs when im heartbroken because i feel like i need to cry, i just want to sit down and bawl my eyes out, and then tire myself out and fall asleep. listening to those songs brings back memories and makes it easier to cry, and they're comforting in letting you know that you're not the only one who gets hurt like that.
