if you think about it all clothes are name brand but i'm talking about famous name brand clothes like baby phat, rocawear, phat farm, timberland, air force ones and many others. i remember i went to ford city and they had some timberland boots that cost $119! that's just ridiculous. i've seen purses that cost $60. what really bugs me is if someone doesn't wear these name brand clothes they think you can't afford it and people who do wear name brand clothes can hardly afford they just waste money and try to stunt. i refuse to pay fifty or sixty dollars for a pair of pants. clothes shouldn't have to be expensive to be name brand. how do feel about expensive name brand clothes?

Certain brand name items are constructed with better quality. How many times have you had a pair of Nikes tear up on you the way some Payless BOGO's do? I purchased my last pair of shoes from Payless in like, the 11th grade, about 7 years ago, after the glue on the inside of shoe started coming apart and the inside sole started flapping like a mouth. I vowed to never, ever shop in Payless again. Now some brands like Baby Phat are actually pretty affordable compared to Louis Vuitton, Versace and Chanel. Would you rather drop a few hundred on a purse that will last for years to come or keep spending $20 here and there on cheap bags that can't even carry the weight of your wallet and cosmetics without tearing up? These fashion designers know we women like to look good and some fashion conscious men as well so they figure they can charge whatever they want and we'll still support them. Blacks are also known to spend more on clothing so we're targeted as well with the high priced namebrands. I have clothes from stores like JCPenney and NY&CO that my parents purchased when I was high school that have yet to tear up. But then I buy clothing now from like Old Navy and Forever 21 and after a few wears, I'll notice a tear somewhere in the fabric. So I will pay more for namebrand clothing, as long as the quality backs the name.

1. It's marketing - consumers perceive more expensive items to be of superior quality, which is not always the case. Also, people desire what they can not have (very expensive, people will strive to have it and eventually break the bank to buy it, even though it's beyond their financial means).

2. On big brands there are lots of extra fees added such as royalties and licensing fees

3. Clothing in general is VERY labour intensive (one pair of sneakers takes 3 hours to produce and has 42 people working on it)

4. Imported garments are subject to transport costs (it takes six weeks to ship garments from South Africa to USA) and import taxes.

5. Then there is of course the mark-up that the retailer adds... usually at least 200% of the cost price. Manufacturers really get paid peanuts

They are expensive because the consumer will pay the price.
If the consumer decided not to buy the items then maybe the distributors would lower their prices due to lack of sales.
They charge the high prices because they can and the prices won't be lowered until the consumer has said enough!

You are paying for the name alone in most cases it is not that they are of better quality fabric or better made than less expensive clothes go for building a classic wardrobe and then on occasion trough in a hot name brand for fun.

i.e one pair of baby phat jeans:$79

B/c They know people will want to buy them to look cool, so they can make em SUPER expenisve and people will still buy them. I think it's stupid, you can buy target jeans that look just as cool for 10 bucks, but whatever.

Cause they are cool, and people will pay that much to look cool.
