I have Rheumatoid Arthritis / Chronic Illness. I am going on a job interview next week. Am I required to tell the new company about my illness? I am applying for a customer service job. I currently do work 40 hours in customer service with no problems! Any advice?

Wow that is tough... i know that on applications, they sometimes ask if you have been diagnosed with a illness that can affect your work performance.... You have to be careful when not fully disclosing information like this. At the same time, if it doesn't affect your performance, then I personally wouldn't say anything.

If the don't ask, you don't tell. If you don't ask, they won't suspect. I am wondering if this arthritis thing won't effect you ability to type, stand, lift or whatever a customer service person has to do. They will ask if you have any problems lifting and how fast you can type so that is all you have to worry about unless they give you a medical form. In that case you have to tell the truth. It's up to them at that point.

Dont tell them any thing regarding your illness. It just customer servivce.....its not surgery you are gonna perform.....chill out dont give out too much info like that else you will be in the job hunt for years.

use the disabilities act of 1993
It insures equal opportunity and since you disclosed the information they are then obligated to make things comfortable with-in reason for you.

You don't have to volunteer the information but they will probably ask you. If not there will probably be something about it on the contract you sign.

If you are currently having no problems, I would say no you don't have to tell them.
