They tell you to turn them off? Why? What is the danger? What about text messaging and emailing? If you've got a signal, what's the harm? Any reported incidents because of this happening?

Not at all. The "Myth Busters" had a segment where they tried several phones and even boosted the signals with no effects on anything. They interviewed an FCC spokesman who said the reason is that some new phone might cause some type of interference and that they decided to err on the side of caution.

yes. because they're interfering with the plane's signals to the control towers. The plane's pilot might not receive important warnings or instructions.
It has also something to do with the navigational system of the plane or something like that.
i think there's already a report that a plane nearly crashed because of that

The signal can interfere with the plane's electronic equipment. I wouldn't suggest you try it out just to see what happens!

yah sure cuz your cellular signals will make the pilot puzzled and he may hit the old woman walkin beside the plane while takin off...so behave
