I have people come up to me begging for money and I tell them that they just passed five fast food restaurants hiring to beg me for money. F*ck 'em! They can earn.

Well, it depends on the situation. But in any town, there are churches and homes available for help. Stupid homeless people that have too much pride to get help so that they can get back on their feet - no. Gotta remember, most of them are drug addicts and alcoholics.

Everyone, including you and all who read and answer your question, is only 3 months away from being homeless. This is the average it takes for someone to default on their mortgage or rent. Imagine someone in your family suddenly getting sick and needing a life saving operation and you either don't have health coverage, or not enough coverage...and bang, there you are wondering how to pay for it and start getting behind on all your bills to take care of it. There are many stories of why people are homeless. One of them I already stated, another is with all the jobs moving out of the USA to other countries where they can get cheap labor has left many in dispair. Again, there you are 30-40 years into a company that you thought gave you lots of job security and....bang, so sorry but you no longer have a job!! Some may not realize what they have done to their lives by doing drugs or drinking alcohol until it is too late. Then it is people like you who belittle these people without any remorse of doing it that end up making the rich richer and the poor poorer by passing rediculous tax laws that make it hard for the hard working low income families to make due. I suppose that noone in your family has had any financial difficulties huh? Or you still live at home with mommy and daddy and don't have to worry about paying your own bills and just sit back and sit in judgement. Everyone in your family(including Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, etc) never had any problems? Pull the wool from your eyes and your head out of your A$$ and start realizing that not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouth and live like the teeny boppers do on those shows on t.v. Something else you have to consider here too is, do you really think a business would hire someone who walked off the street without having a legitamate "home address", I don't think so. Before you make another judgement, read something intelligent covering statistics. And one last thing...Be wise on how you treat strangers, including the homeless, because you never know when one of them might be an angel!!

Just are previous people have answered, many homeless people are employed. Think about it, try working for 7.00/hr. It doesnt work. Whoever says its easy to make it in this country, didn't started from nothing. This country isn't that difficult to make it in. However some people have no understanding of how the system works. Some people just don't understand this. Information is the most important tool. Maybe that homeless guy in front of McDonalds WORKED there. The term is "homeless" not "jobless." Sure you could work 2-3 jobs. But I bet the people calling homeless people lazy, wouldn't work 2-3 jobs! Some, but not all homeless people are lazy, and don't work. I lived in my car for 6 months, because I couldn't find work and my apartment got flooded in a hurricane. I am a software engineer with a degree! Depending on where you live in this country things can be easy or hard. The people complaining about this problem and calling homeless people lazy have never been homeless.

Homeless doesn't mean jobless.

No....they can't "all" earn. Some have disabilities or other conditions that keep them from being hired by anybody, which is why some are homeless. I grant you, some of "them" don't want to handle the responsibilities, and give up, making them homeless. A number of them do pan-handling as their main way of earning money. Sometimes they only want $ to buy drugs or alcohol. You can't tell any of this just by looking at someone. You don't have to give them money, but you do have to be nice to them. They are Gods children, after all, an He wants you to be kind. I hope, for your sake, you are never in a situation like that. You may run across a "you" out there, then you would know what it feels like.

I do feel sorry for homeless people. I didn't until I became a social worker. Lots of them, actually a good portion of them are employed, but can't make enough to sustain a home. And sometimes lots of places won't take a chance and hire someone who's homeless, they see them as being unreliable. But the truth is most Americans, especiallyt those who can't dwell in the top 1% are living pay check to pay check, and I would like to think if the shoe was on the other foot, I would hope a stranger would help me out.

You have a lot to learn in life. Yes, many fast food restaurants are hiring, but when you go to fill out an application, they ask for an address...what should a homeless person write? When they ask for a phone number...what phone number at no address can this person give? How do they get transportation to and from the job? So many of us are fortunate to have homes, jobs and educations, but not all. So "before you abuse, criticize, and accuse...walk a mile in HIS shoes" Also keep in mind...Mary and Joseph were homeless and depended on the kindness of a stranger one Christmas Eve night. And look how wonderful HE turned out to be! I hope you never know the hardships in life that many people know...but try to have a heart, because it can happen to anyone!

Have you ever heard the phrase, "There but for the grace of God go I."? It's not up to us to judge anyone who is homeless, we don't even know why they became homeless. I actually knew a guy who had a job and was homeless and trying to get a place. Also, a lot of homeless people are veterans, and a lot of homeless people have mental problems, and some were very successful but had something go wrong with their job, like the company laying off everybody and hiring cheap labor from India. So do I feel sorry for homeless people, yes.

I feel a little sorry for the. The thing is...I've helped a couple of homeless people and they just come back to me asking for more and more.

There is usually a reason people are homeless in the US for a long time. They have an addiction, are lazy, or are mentally ill. Each of those problems requires much more help than I can give.

You have no idea what their situation is and how they got there. Some are not able to return to work due to disabilities. Don't judge them....you may end up there someday and will need a helping hand. I do agree that some places are hiring, but when someone walks in and is dressed like a homeless person, are you going to look past that and hire them? Think about how these people are percieved everyday.....it's harsh. I mean, look at your response to them....do you expect others to treat them any different? These people need a hand UP not a hand OUT....help them that way and you will start to solve the homeless problem in America.

The majority of homeless people have mental disorders. Our health care system and their families have often failed them when they have needed them most. Show some compassion, very few people choose to beg for money. Skip work some day and give it a try.

This depends on the situation. Do they look like druggies or boozers wanting my hard earned cash for more highs. They can jump in a lake. If they lost their home in a disaster I would give them the chance to make some money or just buy them a burger & soda.
