America's Got Talent - too many singers?

Question

Does anyone else feel like I do that there are simply way too many singers that have been selected for the finals? There are so many other talents that take so much more work and effort to perfect - that are so much more interesting to watch. Why do the judges pick singer after singer to go to the finals? BORING!

I really have to disagree with themikejonas. There are many talents besides singing that people will pay to see. Why did they keep insulting and turning down the magicians and jugglers? Why didn't they like any of the acrobats? There are people who make their living as acrobats.

And, what about Leonid the Magnificent? Granted, he was really weird, but are you telling me he wouldn't be the biggest hit at Cirque du Soleil?

The judges are being too narrow minded in their critiques. They think only actors and singers have any talent. Piers was absolutely brutal to the woman with the trained talking bird. "I could teach that bird to say something in five minutes." That was arrogant.

And, if they're really doing it because they need to sign an act to make back their money, then what is yodeling girl doing in there? Exactly how much money do you think the best yodeler in the world makes?

I think the issue is that they're looking for a "million-dollar" act, one that will make whoever backs them (record company, producers, whatever), *more* than a million dollars. A lot of the acts are amazing and special, but they're one-trick ponies, carnival side shows, small-venue live Vegas acts. How many times are people really going to want to see Lilia Stepanova (regardless of how cute she is) shoot a bow and arrow with her feet? Are they going to buy a new Lilia Stepanova DVD every year, and tickets to every time she's performing in town? They want an act with broad appeal and the ability to generate new and fresh material, and the ability to sell more than just a live performance. Of all the types of performers there are in the show, the kind of acts that fit the bill the most are the conventional music acts.

Disagree. I was thinking the same, and why don't they just go to American Idol. But I corrected myself and said, Most of those people are to young to go to Amer. Idol, like the 13 year old singer and the yodeling girl. And the others are bands or groups, Amer. Idol doesn't allow groups." There are more acts in the finals. In one way I agree with you and in another way a disagree. That guy singer yesterday I thought didn't do to good. He was pitchy and everyone thought he did great.

i totally agree. i mean, if they were just going to pick mostly singers, let american idol take care of that.

and its like they keep forgetting that its a TALENT competition. not a SINGING competition. it should be open to just about all reasonable talents. ones that take plenty of skill and or practice.

kind of too many singers... and that guy last nite was horrible.... he was young, and the audience loved him,,,, i think he stunk... and the winner is gonna end up a 12 year old or something... i think in theory it was good show... but on camera... not so good

well for some of the talents they wont be able to create another routine or maybe they repeated it already..so singing they can provide a bigger range..i think
