Panorama last night showed how beer and football have fused to create a subculture of degenerate yobs, who bring shame to football and to their countries. It's not just England that harbours these halfbreeds, Germany and Holland create them too, but the English seem to create a malevolent vitriol that exceeds any one else.

I partied with the Italians in Piccadilly, and they were wonderful company, I would think twice before entering an English crowd.

I believe that these people are empty-headed, dissatisfied, mis-educated and ignorant, as well as being utterly selfish.

So, what can our society do.

PS watch the answers carefully...they may indicate what we English have to put up with in terms of ignorance.

I think there may be a few Middlesbrough fans that ain't quite with you on the friendly Italian thing.

But across the board alcohol seems to go with most spectator sports, the more trouble you get seems to depend on the popularity of the sport in the countres represented.

I will tell you this, that many other countries had drunken football fans during the world cup, causing riots and fuelling bad feeling towards football fans per se. Was it reported widely in the press well god No! It is only the English fans again that were targeted by the the media because mud sticks. However, I think that we should be proud of the English football fans as most were proud to fly the flag of St George and show the world that we are not a bunch of Nee-do-wells. It is just a minority of so called football fans that put the boot in for the rest of the fans thus being tarred with the same brush as the larger louts.

You ask what can society do, I would suggest that it must start in the schools with education, education, education in the teaching of respect and taking pride in their country. And that football can be enjoyed without someone being brimful of alcohol.

What you watched was probably 1 sided, did the programme show you the thousands of law abiding fans? probably not.Why not? because it wouldn't have made good viewing.
There are good and bad in every sport and every country, I agree with what you are saying about (the minority) who cause trouble. They're just dickheads who probably wouldn't say boo to a goose without a gut full of beer.

Trouble is, the media will present football violence in a way that suggests that there aren't any sensible fans. But you are right, those that in indulge are mindless.
