I mean why can't they be like inbox.com and just have NO ads??? But see that's just thing, the ones who have good names (yahoo and hotmail and mail.com) have ads, and then the ones that don't have ads, are stupid names (like inbox.com)! I'm so frusterated!

They have ads because most of their services, primarily email, are free. It actually costs lots of money to host mail accounts for thousands of people and have redundancy and backups so you don't lose mail in your free account. Those ads help pay for the services.

Well Lets first compare Yahoo/Hotmail/Gmail and Inbox.com/30gigs.com
Yahoo/Hotmail/Gmail are best in their services and security point of view. They give you loads and loads of space for your mailbox. And that too free. What they expect from you is to just see some sponsored ads so that they can provide you excellent services. Ads are their major source of income
Whereas inbox.com/30gigs.com all all useless sites. They just give you mailbox facility with large space but they never give you kind of security from viruses and spammers.
Revenue is the only factor which makes yahoo/hotmail/gmail to put ads on their websites.
You can get ads free mailbox from yahoo/hotmail. But for that you've to pay them money.
Its as simple as that. You pay them money and they won't show you ads or else for free frills, just bear of losing some screen space to ads..
