The next step after an abnormal Pap is a colposcopy wherein the doctor actually looks at the cervix. Several solutions are swabbed onto the cervix and the cells' reaction to them is noted. If there's any abnormal reaction, a biopsy is done at the same time. There is a chance that your doc won't see anything that concerns her and skip the biopsy. That's what happened to me, although my dysplasia was of the mildest level. Since yours is moderate, there's increased cause for concern right off the bat. Let her do the biopsy and take it from there based on the results.

Yes your doctor knows what she's doing. Dysplasia is the appearance of abnormal cells on the surface of the cervix. The changes in the cervix are classified as mild, moderate, and severe. Dysplasia itself is not considered a dangerous, however it is considered a pre cancerous condition. Left untreated it can take up to 10 years to cause cervical cancer. Your doctor will decide the best treatment for you after she receives your biopsy report. Usually the dysplasia is removed by freezing the cervix and scraping the diseased tissue away. Then frequent pap's will be done to see if it reoccurs. Hope this helps. Go with your doctors recommendation.

Let her do the biopsy. It's a far more accurate test than the pap. The pap is a general screening, and the biopsy will tell exactly what's going on. Don't take chances with your health. The more thorough the test, the better you know what's going on.

Most labs will check and re-check the same sample before reporting to the doctor. You can seek a second opinion, but I would either have the biopsy or see another gynecologist as soon as possible. Try not to worry. 75% of cancers are curable when caught in time. I wish you the best

The same thing happened to me the first time I had a gyno exam. It freaked me out, but just go on with the biopsy (that's not fun though). All she will do is insert a small scooper-like thing (sort of like a tiny ice cream scoop) and scrap cells from your cervix. It's just more indepth and tells more than a pap smear.

Have her do a second pap first, if it also comes back abnormal then do the biopsy. If she doesn't want to do it, then get a new doctor.

Let her do the biopsy. If the cells are abnormal, this is how she is going to know WHY for sure.

If you pap showed dysplastic cells, you don't want to wait thru a repeat. If caught early cervical cancer is easily treated and you get on with life. If left too long, that cancer is a rapid grower and will spread. Follow your doctor's advice and get the biopsy asap.

I would have her do the biopsy. That is common practice whenever there are abdnormal cells. Better safe than sorry. Once the results come back, your doctor can pursue it from there.
