No.

However, the left or right is an interesting question. Pierced ears left or right signaled straight or gay during the 1970's. There are several other significances throughout time and cultures. One of the more interesting ones has to do with old time sailing ships. Recall that today we've charactarized pirates and their hardy shipmates with pierced ears.

Sailors, primarily whalers, would pierce an ear to signify their arduous yet successful passage around Cape Horn which connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans at the tip of South America. A left or right piercing signaled which side the land was on when you passed. If you travelled east to west then the land was on your right and so your right ear would be pierced. If travelling west to east the land would be on your left and so your left ear would be pierced. Travelling east to west is the more arduous journey and therefore a right piercing signals a hardier individual.

So, left or right I would choose right. However, recall how ugly those pirates and their shipmates are and reconsider your decision to mutilate your body -- especially a mutilation that others envision to be cute. Are they sick?

Seriously, just giggle when they say you'd look cute and leave piercing to the grimey pirates of yester.

Just remember a piercing--provided it's done professionally and you follow proper after-care procedure--is forever.

You're obviously very young now. But imagine how your pierced lip will enhance your "look" when you're 50. I know what you're thinking: "Oh, I can just take it out and let it heal". A proper piecing never "heals". At the very least you'll be left with a small smudge of scar tissue in a very prominent position on your face.

Hey, I'M pierced. Also tattooed. But I made those decisions when I was old enough to understand the meaning of forever (except one ear piercing which I had done when I was 16--but an earlobe is NOT a lip).

Don't forget, as far as your pressuring pals go, misery loves company. After all, who would the boys rather kiss? Your soft lips or aisle 5 at the hardware store?

Get your nipples pierced instead. It's MUCH hotter than facial mutilation and you won't even have to take them out for job interviews.

If you can't chose what side you want to get it done on, simply take your picture that you've got on the computer, put it on Paint or other program where you can edit pictures and draw on the top and put a little dot on either side of your lip and see which one looks better:) Easy peasy:D people usually do these things because they want to be different to others or more like others:) Unlike tattoos that we are using for the same purpose, this thing can be taken out:) Just like that;)

Am I missing something or have I a misunderstanding about NATURE and the human body, but aren't the lips for speaking?

I hear that everyone, around the corner from you is smearing horse waste on their face, are you going to join them since everyone else is doing it?

Stop and think for a moment! Every time you do something that is wrong for the body it gives you pain to try to keep you from doing that!

Stick a pin, it hurts, fire, it burns, beat, that hurts, first smoke in your lungs, you choke, cut-more pain! I think there is a lesson here. Just go stick a safety pin in your lip and listen to what your body has to say about it!

It seems that you know and have a lot of acquaintances, but without question, NO FRIENDS!

Get familiar with these sorts of comments:

What's that in your lip? Looks like you got a fishing lure stuck in your lip!

Ugh, my friend that had hers pierced heard stuff like that all the time. Soooo annoying!

a lip piercing would be a nice idea. either side works, none is better than the other. have you considered getting a monroe instead?

No. I don't think the whole lip piercing works on brown haired person that well.
