The artists are Burt Brokeback...I mean Bacharach, Charo, and Little Richard. At least those are the only one's that I have seen, but there might be more. Yeah, those commercials are pretty dumb, but they work. They stand out and people remember them.

The basic fact that you have asked this question shows that the ads are doing their job: Getting Your Attention!! That's the whole purpose. Did you have any idea of what Geico was before that gecko showed up - and now the Cavemen? It's brilliant from an ad agency/client angle.
My Dad was in advertising all his life, also PR for an NBA and an AHL team, and I learned this from him. I can't think of a better source than a man who made a very good living from making air conditioning systems for entire buildings "sexy."

Geico is paying for the ads because it is a silly gimmick that people tend to remember.

OMG! I hate those stupid annoying Geico commercials. You know that company could single-handedly wipe out world hunger, just with what they spend to run those commercials every 5 minutes on every channel, everyday!!! Think about that one.

I assume you mean the new ones with Burt Bachrach and Charo "translating" a person's sob story?
I loved the ones that started as a normal ad for a type of tv show, then turned into I have good news, I saved lots of money...
And still love the lizard.
