I mean, they're on TV every weekend - even when they have no real reason to be, in the Top 25 every year - again, even with no real reason to be - and yet, they don't do anything but have an okay season. And, they insist on staying independent. What's up with that, and why does everyone put up with it?

I think the only reason they're on TV every weekend during the season is because some TV exec is a Notre Dame alum. That's it.

Lmeister:
It's the minority that love Notre Dame. Everyone else has a college team near them that they love much more than the Irish.

And jealousy? I didn't know that ND had won 11 national championships, or had 7 Heisman winners until after I posted this. I didn't care enough to find that out previously, so how can I be jealous of something I'm ambivalent about?

It's like a pestering gnat buzzing around your ear that you can't quite catch to smash. Let's call it like it is, it's annoyance, nothing more.

I have been tired of ND for 30 years. They use to be a top notch program, but they have fallen off. i know how this goes, because I am a Nebraska Cornhusker fan. We have not been doing as well as we have in the past and have fallen off the tv schedules, as well as top 25 rankings. I would like to see ND do the same, when they have an off year or even average year.

100% agree with you. Arrogance is the perfect description of a ND fan.

Arrogance? The only reason Notre Dame is on TV so much is because people across the country want to see them play! Do you really think the NBC executives sat down and said, hey, let's put an unpopular, unsuccessful football team on every Saturday, and if the viewers don't like it, tough! That'll really stick it to them! Right. Here's what actually happened. The people at NBC are businessmen and they know that Notre Dame sells because people want to watch them. There are Notre Dame fans and alumni all across the country, and they want to watch the Irish play. It's simple supply and demand. Do you think anyone in New York or LA wants to watch Nebraska play? No offense to the Huskers, but no, unless they're really really good and maybe not even then.

As for having no reason to be in the Top 25, you're right, I have to concede that. I mean it's not like their QB finished fourth in Heisman balloting last year or anything or that he's a projected first round draft pick along with Samardzija. It's not like they went to Ann Arbor and beat #3 Michigan or doubled up two teams in the Top 25 on the road or anything last year. As I recall, they weren’t in anybody’s Top 25 before last year. Heck, Mark May and Lee Corso predicted they would start off 0-6, so I don’t really think you can say they’ve been in the Top 25 “every year” “with no real reason” because that’s simply untrue.

I don't see any "arrogance" here, I see jealousy. Just because people love Notre Dame does not make ND arrogant, just because they have 11 National Championships, 7 Heisman winners, and one of the most recognizable fight songs does not make them arrogant. It’s called being good. The only people who don’t like this and call it “arrogance” are people who are jealous that the teams they love don’t get that kind of recognition. Well, that’s because nobody cares about your teams. As I said before, no team has the kind of national following that Notre Dame does. That’s why they’re on TV. And they’re Independent so they can pick their own schedule and continue rivalries with USC, Michigan, Michigan St., Purdue, Boston College, and Navy instead of being forced to play Illinois or Rutgers every year. Everyone puts up with it because everyone, less a vocal minority, loves Notre Dame.

In reply to your comment, the only reason that they're on TV is because people want to watch them. It's as simple as that. If you can't figure that out then I can understand why you hate Notre Dame so much. Your ignorance of the facts in this matter is probably a large contributing factor to your dislike of Notre Dame. Lastly, how can you be this annoyed about something you're so ambivalent about?

Well with 11 National Championships and 7 Heisman Trophey winners why not. :) If ur talkin about every game being on T.V. thats cuz they have a contract with whatever network...As far as I can remember they didn't start in the top 25 last year...and they stay independant for the monay! Go Irish...Brady Quinn for Heisman!

I don't think they even beat a team in the top 20 last year did they? What reason would they be placed into the top 5 if not for their team history? They will be lucky to stay in the top 25 all season. The days of Rudy are gone! Get over it!

Id rather watch them than some Michigan game, or even Penn State........and the reason there on so much lately is because of their coach, Charlie Weiss...he use to be a coordinator for the Patriots.

NOPE, NOTRE DAME IS GREAT.

THEY HAVE A TELEVISION CONTRACT WITH NBC FOR THEIR HOME GAMES.

ESPN AND ABC CHOOSE TO BROADCAST ALL THEIR ROAD GAMES BECAUSE ALL NOTRE DAME GAMES ATTRACT RATINGS.

YOU'RE RIGHT, THEY DON'T DESERVE TO BE IN THE TOP 25 -- THEY DESERVE TO BE IN THE TOP TEN.

THEY'RE INDEPENDENT BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SETTING A SCHEDULE, EVERYONE WOULD LOVE TO PLAY THEM.

GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
