I'll use Savings : Price for the ratios in my proportion.

(45% / 100%) = ($11.70 / x)

45x = 100(11.70)
45x = 1170
x = 1170 / 45 = 26.

The original price of the shirt was $26.
The sale price of the shirt = $26 - $11.70 = $14.30.

This means that 45% of the original price was 11.70

so:
100 : x
45 : 11.7

so by cross multiplication:

45x = 100*11.7
45x = 1170
x= 1170/45 = $26 the original price of the shirt.
so the price at sales would be the original - the remaining
= 26 - 11.7 = $14.30 the sale price of the shirt.

$11.70 divided by .45 = $26.00 (cost of shirt)

$26.00 minus $11.70 (savings) = $14.30 (sale price)

The sale price is $14.30

45/100=11.7/x

x=(11.7*100)/45

x=26

26-11.7=14.3
