Actually their search algorithims vary quite a bit. Having said that, I would not agree that one or the other is better, they are just different.

Basically, you are going to spark some controversy with this question.
People that love Yahoo will say "google ISN'T better" and vice versa.
I, personally, am a Google fan.
Google is lightweight, it's fast. If you go to google it loads in like 0 seconds. I have a personalized home page on Google and it is even light and clean and fast. I've seen Yahoo home pages and they always seem cluttered.
Anyway, that's just the superficial stuff... the real meat of Google's attraction is their searching algorithms and the way they index the web. It's much faster and much more intuitive.
Google also provides a number of free resources (much like yahoo) that are powerful enough to even challenge Microsoft (unlike yahoo) as the leader in intuitive functionality for the day-to-day computer user.
I think a lot of people like Google just because of what they stand for. They're cool, laid-back guys. They see what people need or want and try to give it to them.
My guess, though, is that Yahoo tries to do the same thing (I don't know, I'm a Google fan). Google probably just has a more outspoken following.

As far as search engines go, Google is more up-to-date and the information gets into it faster. Yahoo! is pretty much sorted by hand, which in many cases, will give you an excelent find, but not necessarily what you need, nor everything available for a search on Google. Yahoo! tends to be cleaner with less results that could be potentially useful; Google gives a more comprehensive listing of results.
Frankly, something like Dogpile is probably the easiest way to find solid information.
Everything else, like mail and games, is an issue of preference.

Yahoo! is widely viewed as the center for content. Google is for raw search power.
Both turn up similar hits when you do a basic search. The more advanced it becomes, the more accurate and less repetitive Google results get. Truthfully, I haven't bothered with Google since Yahoo! refined their searching capabilities in the last 2 years. Like you said, they're nearly identical in most cases.

Absolutley nothing in my opinion! Google is infested with adware for one thing! Yahoo still seems to search for any and every instance of your search query. Google tends to direct you toward sites that only they are affiliated with. Like some browser helpers people download that supposedly speed up your browsing experience! Sure they do! They omit 70 percent of the search listings and direct you to sites they make money from! You the browser lose here, you are being deprived of valuable info and sometimes tremendous savings because you have been robbed of what I call " The Right to browse" law!

If you ask just as search engine may they found the same but depend on which one gives the result fast. and if you are talking about other services, Google Earth is good, Yahoo's Answers service is very good. in mail both are good.

I use yahoo as more like a communication tool and that's it. Google is what I always search with. Ask.com seems cool, but it's not as easy to use as google.
Go to google.com and type in "failure" and hit i'm feeling lucky
I enjoyed it.
