We used to try at work. Was billiards a sport? Was Nascar a sport? We couldn't decide what defined a sport. We knew baseball and football were sports. So we figured to be a sport it has to involve skill. But does it also need to be physical?

How do you define what a sport is?

A sport would be something that people compete in. It can be mental (chess) or physical (football). A way to keep score is necessary. Rules of play are also necessary.

See George Carlin's comedy bit about sports. In this case, there are only three--baseball, basketball, and football. All others are "games" or "activities."

It's pretty darn funny, too!

A sport is an activity that involves phsyscial activity. I would say that it should be phsyscial but some poeple say that it does not have to be.

if you can hurt people while playing, it's a sport. if you can bet on it, it's a sport. if you can drink while watching, it's a sport, and if you sweat while partcipating, it's a sport. (yes, this leaves out figure skating)
