My little sis recently auditioned for a part in the play Seussical at a community theater and she didn't do her best singing(piano was dead and she forgot the tune), but did a marvelous job with reading and using expression. What are the chances she made it?

It all depends on the director.
Sometimes, even if you didn't audition well, the director/music director can still determine your vocal ability.
In a show such as Seussical, I would think that characterization would carry slightly more weight than being able to belt a solo.
