Are there any products or special tricks to getting kool-aid and other stains out of carpet.

Try Spot Shot! My dad is a carpet cleaner, and it's the only stain remover he'll let his customers use. You can get it at almost any grocery store.

Try sparkling water. Pour it over the stain and let it soak for a bit and then blot.
A friend used it to get red kool aid out of her oriental rug and it removed green popsicle stains from my car upholstery.
