What firewall do you have?

In your firewall somewhere there should be an event log, and hopefully that should give you some info about whats happening. I don't know what firewall you're running - and you shouldn't post that here - but even with my security settings at maximum my firewall doesn't break my internet connection.
Try the help within the firewall, and go to the company website. There should be FAQ's and a forum, and you'll get help there in setting up your firewall.
Also if you run Avast! anti virus and it detects a problem with a page that you've requested (ie it contains a virus or trojan) it will break the connection. The answer to that is be more careful what pages you're visiting.

You need to go to the security settings and then sites and add the help desk and BT pages as safe sites.
