You would think that people would like to present themselves as intelligent, well-spoken characters, even on-line, but....

Because although some people try answering questions quite seriously, the appearance of their words doesn't come off as important as the information they portray. The purpose of this is to answer people's questions. Yes they come off more intelligent if the writer uses whole words and correct spelling, but the content is the point.
