You can disable this in oulook express as this is a security feature of the new outlook express. Go into outlook express and then tools, options and then when that window opens, click on the security tab and there you will see an option called "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could be potentially a virus" and remove the tick from it and then click on apply and Ok and then now you should be able to open the attachment on the message.

Often outlook will strip certain file types for security purposes, since many executable formats (.zip, .exe, etc...) may contain viruses.

There are ways to circumvent this security, but it requires editing the system registry. This is not recommended if you're not familiar with it, as you can irreparably damage windows.

Down load thunderbird it is free from mozilla firefox. Thats what I had to do becasue outlook done the samething to me. I like thunderbird. Go to this web site and read it. It is easy to install and set up. And this is a trusted site. This site belongs to my work. I work for a telephone company.
