225 sq foot room, with 5 windows 64 inches tall, no insulation. Consumer reports has a great calcilator, but it did not work, told me "NA". I think i need a 6000 BTU, but I'm not sure.

ConsumerReports.com and Lowes.com are really good resources! Because I have so many windows and no insulation, I need a 12000 BTU. Thanks so much everyone!

12,000 BTU will be more than satisfactory in almost all weather. 8000 will do the job, but will run more. Do not use anything bigger than 12,000, and then only if lots of sun comes in the room in the afternoon. Anything larger will be cycling on and off toooooo much. And besides, anything larger than 12,000 btu will probably be 220 volts. IF it were me, I would use an 8000 btu and be done with it. Good luck

You can use the Consumer Reports calculate located at:
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/appliances/air-conditioners/reports/sizing-worksheet/index.htm
to find out exactly what size is best for your situation.
This calculator will factor in a lot more than spaces (ie: how many windows, how many walls are outside-walls, what city you live in, etc)

Equate BTU's to Tonnage.
Good rule is 500 to 700 sq. ft. per ton.
Your room size is 225 sq. ft. Very likely anything in the 25,000 BTU range will keep you way chilly. Certainly research other things such as thermostat controls, etc.

I used Lowe's store a/c buyers guide here:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=howTo&p=BuyGuide/AirConditioner.html&lks=ap31b
Lots of good info on room size, a/c efficiency and other considerations.
For your room, 15x15 = 225 sq ft, a 6,000 BTU should work, but a 7,000 BTU unit might be better if your window area is very large and they are single-pane glass.

Most window a/c unit have a room size on the box. I just bought a 5000 BTU a/c and the box said it would do a 10x10 room. So a 12000 BTU unit should do your needs just nice.
