well you're doing all the right things by making sure it's got plenty of food to eat and playing with it. They thrive on company. Maybe it's still feeling a little shy, after all you haven't had it long and it probably got used to being around it's family, and now it's on its own. Just keep being gentle with it, letting it know you're there and gradually it will recognise your voice and be eager to play with you all the time

Give him some time; if you were taken from your environment by a stranger and put in a new place, you'd be shy for a while too. If you got it from a shop it's probably been moved around from the breeder to the distributor to the shop quite a lot lately. Cut him some slack and don't force the issue and he'll come around. 24 hours isn't long, give him a week or 2 at least. I know you're eager to make friends but he's probably a little scared.

Guinea Pig....I have two girls, Peanut and Rose. It will take a couple of weeks for your piggy to get used to your smell and touch before it gets too friendly, but trust me soon enough it will be eating out of your hand. Mine nibble my fingers all the time but have never bitten. Go outside and pick it some grass as it is a favourite treat. Best of luck...

It's just in the nature of a rodent to shy from you. It will get used to you, but may always run from you when you try to pick it up. that's just a piggie being a piggie. You have to be careful picking them up, no matter how old they get, most don't like it but are OK with it.

The web will give you all of the information you need to keep your piggie healthy. Mine are all over 6 years old.
