You can send free texts using Aim just open a chat window and change the name to the number you want to send the text to.

IE

+1 111 111 1000

Yes, you won't get charged for sending it from the PC but whoever receives may be charged by their carrier for opening it. Unless they have a package w/txt msg'ing included.

In verizon it costs to recieve texts as well as send them so if you are using verizon it will cost to recieve the message on a phone but not to send from comp.

I know you can, not sure how you would go about that though...maybe the provider's website...i know you can send messages to people's cell phones if you have yahoo messenger.
