Not to sound harsh......but where have you been? This has been the case since slavery. There are places if you're black you don't go....and places if you're white you don't go. There's still the "good old boy" mentality in a lot of places.....unfortunately.

Perfect example....New Orleans and Katrina.

My racist southern grandparents felt they needed to move out of their Atlanta, GA neighborhood because "they" had started to move in... Now grandpa's dead and grammers has managed to isolate herself off in some all-white retirement world away from the city... Although I do recall there being some black serving staff there, so maybe black servants are still ok to her.

My grandma and I don't see eye to eye on much... Maybe things are changing, but it will at least take the older generation dying off of old age for any real openness to bloom. Of course, I hear there are some small, isolated communities up here in Ohio that manage to really drill in the racism, religious bigotry, and ethnic hatred to a level I would not have expected either.

On an even larger scale, I studied this sort of question a lot as an undergraduate with classes on prejudice, ethnocentrism, and stigma. I don't think it will ever quite go away as long as there are people isolated away from other people such that they never get a balanced experience beyond just the hate talk and stereotypes. By that I mean that defeating racism will be an ongoing effort, such that our expectation in envisioning a solution must include efforts to engage people in experiencing friendships with others.

If your white or black, it's still more than two different places. Probably like 200-300. I've been to like 5 places down south myself. They are different than each other. You wqant evidence, look at a map. Theres at least 7-8 states in the south

I don't know about being "two different places" but I can for sure tell you racism still exists there (as everywhere). I was visiting relatives in Louisiana a couple of years ago and went to a party. I had somebody come up to me and ask where I was from (a northern state) to which they replied "Must be nice, you don't have any African-Americans (they didn't use that word) up there do you??? In a lot of the smaller towns it's still the "other side of the tracks" mentality. Will it ever end?? Not as long as parents keep preaching that racist crap to their children. I wish it would...

The south is two different places depending on whether you are literate or not. I always meet the most awful people when I am forced to travel through the Barbarous Regions.

i think it depends on where you are

there are still distinct neighbourhoods where it's primarily black or white... i think in the low income areas you see the bigger differences

It is pretty much everywhere. Just look around for the evidence. It is there.
