I dont get it. Why do so many people like it? Not to put it down or anything, maybe Im just missing something.

anime is very addictive and it enhances ones imagination.......it is also a Japanese style of animated cartoon that uses strongly outlined images, often in high detail, with simplified treatment of motion and depth, and that is known for complex futuristic stories sometimes with mature themes and typically with many characters

For the same reasons people like american comics or vampire novels. Anime has many of the same themes going on, in fact most anime is based off the Japanese equivalent of comic books, they just make more cartoon out of them, and the TV execs over there don't require them to "dumb it down" so much for the younger set.

I love it because I love cartoons and Anime has so many different stories that could be impossible for real life action movies to do! Would you rather have actors act out the Cartoon instead of animation???Could you imagine real people playing Sailor Moon? Or Chobits! ha ha that would look stupid!!!

Anime is like cartoons for a more grown up taste. It's like a R-rated or M-17 cartoon. Disney makes cartoons for little kids, Bandai and Manga make cartoons for young adults and adults as well. It's usually marketed to teenagers and young adults versus little kids that watch Nikelodeon or the disney channel.

Not everyone likes it. I have a friend who falls asleep about 5 mins into every show we ever watch.
The people who do like it have different reasons for liking it. Some like the characters, some like the traditional bases of the stories, some like the artwork, etc.

Same reason people like books, music, or movies. It's just another form of entertainment: stylize animation that encompasses many genres of subjects (adventure, action, sci-fi, romance, horror, etc.) And just like other forms, there's good anime and bad anime.

Because people are just fallowing a trend, it all started with Pokemon. I think anime is sick, Japans animation has issues with degrading women.
