i dont understand this: x-3=8x+5 & -2(x-5)=7????????

the equations you posted are known as equations 'having no solution', because (quite obviously ) the value of x from the 2 eqn. are not the same!
hence there are 2 possibilities-
the eq. are erroneous (which by default we can eliminate
or
the eq. do not have any solutions.

I'm sorry, I can't remember how to do the first one, but the second one should go as follows:

-2(x-5) = 7 ( do evenly to both sides of the equation)
-2x + 10 = 7
- 10 = 7 -10 (-10 to make it equal zero on the left)
-2x = -3
divide by -2 = -3/-2 (divide both sides by the number)
x = + 3/2
which is : x = 1 1/2

PROBLEM #1
x-3=8x+5
First put like terms together and cancel by adding or subtracting. You should keep the x term positive. So here, subtract x from 8x and subtract 5 from -3.
x-3=8x+5
-x-5=-x-5
----------------
-8=7x
Ok now u have to put the x alone. Since its being multipied by 7, u have to do the opposite which is divide so divide 7 by each side. the 7 cancels out.
-8/7=7/7x
x=-8/7 or -1.14 (rounded to the nearest hundreadth)

PROBLEM #2
-2(x-5)=7
Use Distributive Property.
-2x+10=7
Subtract 10 from each side.
-2x+10=7
-10=-10
-----------------
-2x=-3
Divide both sides by -2.
-2x=-3
-2/-2x=-3/-2
x=3/2 or 1.5

Ok hope my explinations helps. To check my answers, substitute the x's for the answers that i put. If correct in the end, it should be equal. Im so glad i took 10 grade math last year in 8th grade =)
