I want to buy a video game console. But let me make something clear. I don’t need the fanciest or the most expensive. I was happy with my 1st generation NES before my ex-husband took it in the divorce (it doesn't take much to please me). I just want something that will have lots of game choices available and the game cartridges must be affordable. Any suggestions?

Nintendo Gamecube is reasonably priced, and you can find used games for really cheap. Also, memory cards are cheap, and you can store many games on them. The graphics on the Gamecube are wonderful, many of the games look realistic. Also, gamecube is easy to store, and very small. Also, controllers already have rumble feature available. (P.S. PS2, XBOX, anything else, are too expensive, and not worth your money.)

Well, there are several options. I am thinking that you are not talking about a portable device, more like a station.

It depends on how much you are willing to pay and how long you are willing to wait.

If you can afford the Nintendo Wii (expected $200) and can wait for it to be released, go for it!

If you can afford the PlayStation 3 (expected 400-600$) and can wait for it to be released, buy it, not the Wii.

If you can't afford either of the above options or cannot wait, go for a PlayStation 2 or a Nintendo GameCube.

If you can afford a PlayStation 2 (expected 120$ now or something), go for it.

If you can afford a Nintendo Gamecube but not a PlayStation 2 (expected 70$), go for it.

So it depends on how much you have and how long you are willing to wait.

It can go from 70$ and no wait all the way to 600$ and 3 months wait.

Those are the only 4 good home gaming consoles on the market.

If you are looking for a cheap next generation console that will be much fun, get a Wii. It has so much stuff on it, with a lot of great and cheap games. It is actually the cheapest of the three next gen consoles, and has an amazing motion sensor control so you can do stuff like shake the control to perform a spin attack in Twilight Princess. In many opinions it had the best E3 performance, too. The only bad thing is that you have to wait a bit for it to be released, but it's worth it.

If you just want something low-down, cheap, get a Gamecube. There are many creative games for it and you will definately have lots of fun. It's not very flashy, but don't let it's look deter you from the fact that it is just plain fun. This is the one for you if you don't really want anything overhyped, just something to entertain you. You can even still get Super Smash Bros. Melee and have hours of fun partying with your friends while duking it out with Nintendo's coolest characters. You don't even need a multitap to make it four player.

If you want something flashy and popular but great, get a PS2 (or PS3, next gen). It still has that little thing that makes it special. Although it is originally two player, you can get a multitap and make it four. You will get much out of this, it's about the same fun level about a Gamecube. There are many games that are fun to play, too.

Xbox? Maybe, but you may get bored quickly. I myself do not like Xbox that much, it bores me. Some games are good. Others you'll need a fighting spirit for. If you enjoy games like Halo, you may enjoy an Xbox, but I don't really recommend it....just my opinion...

I will be getting a Wii. I personally think that will be the most interesting and fun console, especially with that motion sensor controller that makes you seem completely in control of the game. And I will definately be getting Super Smash Bros. Brawl! I WANT THIS TO COME OUT ALREADY!.....

Anyway, it's your choice. What you'll enjoy is based on your liking.

Quick simple answer. Ps2 is the cheapest system with the most games. Anything older than it will be really hard to find games.
